It started with an enigmatic Instagram post from Ryan Reynolds featuring Deadpool in place of Fred Savage’s grandfather (Peter Falk) from The Princess Bride:
According to sources at Collider, the image isn’t just Reynolds dropping a sly reference to one of his favorite movies; it’s foreshadowing of a brand-new Deadpool film hitting theaters around Christmas time. “Christmas is coming a few days early this year for Deadpool fans, as 20th Century Fox has just announced it will release an Untitled Deadpool Movie in theaters on Dec. 21.,” Collider reported. “No other details were given, with the studio encouraging the press to ‘guess away’.”
It’s unknown at this time if the film will be feature length (probably not) or how much it will incorporate footage (perhaps unused) from the first two Deadpool films, but Fox is releasing the film the same day as Warner Bros. and Paramount properties Aquaman and Bumblebee, which shows they must have some confidence behind the film pushing tickets. Deadline reports the movie will actually be a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2: “Fox is releasing, what we hear, is a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 on Dec. 21. They’ve listed it as untitled Deadpool movie.”
Either way, the Merc with a Mouth will be stuffing stockings this Christmas and we look forward to it. We’ll report further developments on the Untitled Deadpool Movie as they arrive.
